THE LAURELS
A Warm and Homely Environment
The Laurels, part of Thorntoun Estate, is a welcoming and comfortable home caring for those with learning disabilities where they can truly feel safe, settled and valued. With 14 bedrooms, including 13 permanent rooms and one respite room, the service offers both continuity and flexibility in a close knit, supportive setting. Shared spaces such as the lounge and kitchen create a relaxed, family feel, while easy access to the garden allows residents to enjoy fresh air and quiet moments outdoors. Every aspect of the environment is designed to reflect the Care Inspectorate’s focus on creating a safe, nurturing place where people feel at home.
Personalised Care You Can Trust

At The Laurels, care is always shaped around the individual. We provide both residential and nursing care for adults and older people with learning difficulties, recognising that everyone has their own needs, preferences and life experiences. Our team of well-trained, dedicated staff are passionate about delivering high quality, person centred care that promotes dignity, independence and choice. Guided by the SSSC Codes of Practice and the NMC Code, staff combine professional expertise with genuine compassion, taking the time to build strong, trusting relationships. In line with the Equality Act 2010, we are committed to ensuring that people with disabilities are supported to access services equally, with reasonable adjustments made to meet individual needs and remove barriers to participation. This ensures that everyone feels respected, included and fully involved in decisions about their care, while families have confidence in the support being provided.
Supporting Connection and Meaningful Living
Life at The Laurels is about supporting people to live well, not just be cared for. We place a strong emphasis on social interaction and meaningful engagement, encouraging residents to maintain relationships, take part in activities and enjoy a sense of community. Shared spaces such as the lounge and kitchen naturally bring people together, while the garden offers additional opportunities for relaxation and connection. In line with the Care Inspectorate Quality Framework, the focus is on achieving positive outcomes that enhance wellbeing, confidence and quality of life. Whether through everyday routines, social moments or personal achievements, people are supported to feel included, valued and able to live a life that is fulfilling and meaningful to them.
