THE ELMS

A Safe, Supportive and Inclusive Environment

This Elms provides a warm, welcoming and homely environment for adults with learning disabilities. With space for up to 10 individuals, including eight permanent residents and two dedicated respite rooms, the setting offers both stability and flexibility to meet a range of needs. The home is designed to promote comfort, safety and independence, creating a calm and inclusive atmosphere where people feel secure, valued and able to be themselves.

Outdoor space plays an important role in daily life, with a sensory garden that offers a peaceful and engaging environment for relaxation and stimulation. This thoughtfully designed space supports wellbeing and provides opportunities for individuals to connect with nature in a way that suits their preferences.

Personalised Support

Care is tailored to each individual, recognising their unique strengths, needs and aspirations. Our well-trained and dedicated staff work in line with the SSSC Codes of Practice, delivering support that is respectful, person-centred and focused on promoting choice and independence. Staff take time to build meaningful relationships, using effective communication and a consistent approach to ensure people feel understood, confident and involved in their care.

The service also offers short-term respite stays, providing a supportive and welcoming environment for those who may benefit from additional care while giving families reassurance and continuity of support.

Promoting Independence and Meaningful Lifestyles

Daily life is centred on supporting people to live active, fulfilling lives. Staff actively encourage regular outings and community engagement, supported by the use of the unit’s minibus, helping individuals stay connected and enjoy new experiences. Activities and routines are shaped around personal interests, promoting confidence, social interaction and skill development.

Guided by the Care Inspectorate Quality Framework, the focus is on achieving positive outcomes for each individual, supporting wellbeing, independence and a strong sense of belonging. Whether through time in the sensory garden, community outings or everyday achievements, people are supported to live in a way that is meaningful to them within a safe and supportive community.
